callas pdfToolbox 5 keeps evolving!

callas software have now released pdfToolbox 5.3, the latest maintenance update for the pdfToolbox product line. This new version introduces a number of (smaller) features and fixes a significant amount of problems encountered by customers.


New features

The following is a list of the most important new possibilities and changes in this maintenance release:

  • A full Japanese localization, including a number of specific features for the Japanese market such as support for adding and recognizing Japanese printer marks and support for common color conversion profiles.
  • A new preflight check to detect the use of roman ligatures.
  • When rendering images, it is now possible to restrict the area rendered to existing page boxes (such as the trim box) or custom areas.
  • When splitting PDF files, there are more possibilities for naming the split files.
  • Additional options in the page scaling fixups.
  • Integration of the latest version of the Adobe PDF library
  • Full support for Apple Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).


Fixes

The following list contains some of the most important fixes in this maintenance release:

  • When generating XML reports, special characters will now be handled correctly and the name of not-embedded fonts is now properly mentioned in the details for the fixup.
  • Several transparency flattening problems are resolved.
  • In certain cases, converting fonts to outlines or subsetting fonts caused problems; these have now been resolved.
  • A significant number of problems with special case color conversions have been resolved.
  • Creating a booklet sometimes caused a missing or shifted page – this has been fixed.
  • A significant number of problems related to processing special case PDF files (corrupted files, encrypted files...) have been resolved.
